Nikkor PC-E 24mm f/3.5D ED
Press Release by Nikon Corporation

New wide-angle NIKKOR lens with Perspective Control

PC-E NIKKOR 24mm f/3.5D EDTokyo – Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce the introduction of the high-performance PC-E NIKKOR 24mm f/3.5D ED, PC (Perspective Control) lens. This new lens is equipped with a tilt/shift mechanism that gives photographers the flexibility to manipulate image perspective, distortion and focus.

The lens employs a special mount that enables up to ±11.5 mm shift and ±8.5° tilt for perspective control. Shift and tilt can be adjusted via convenient side-mounted controls while referring to the scales provided with gradations at 1mm or 1° intervals. The lens optics can be rotated up to 90° right or left for perspective control adjustment, and click-stops are provided every 30°.

The lens aperture can be preset by using the aperture ring and aperture stop-down button. It remains stopped down until the button is pressed again, for easy depth-of-field confirmation. With SLR models compatible with electromagnetic diaphragm (D3 and D300), auto aperture control is available.

In addition to perspective control photographic applications such as architecture and interiors, this lens can also be used for any subject appropriate for a 24mm wideangle lens. With a closest focusing distance of only 0.21 m/0.7 ft. and a maximum reproduction ratio of 1/2.7, it’s also an excellent choice for close-up photography.

To ensure superior picture quality, the lens incorporates a host of state-of-the-art optical features and technologies. Nikon’s exclusive Nano Crystal Coat dramatically reduces ghosting and flare caused by internal reflections. Three ED glass elements minimize chromatic aberration for higher-resolution, higher-contrast images. Three aspherical lenses effectively correct spherical aberration and coma. And a rounded nine-blade diaphragm opening gives out-of-focus elements a more natural appearance. All of which adds up to exceptional optical performance even at the maximum tilt and/or shift settings.

As both a special-purpose lens and high-performance wideangle lens, the new PC-E NIKKOR 24mm f/3.5D ED lens represents a significant addition to the field-proven NIKKOR lens lineup, providing professional and serious amateur photographers with innovative, effective solutions to photographic challenges.

Nikon Corporation is also pleased to share important news about two more lenses to expand and strengthen our PC NIKKOR lens lineup. The new PC-E Micro NIKKOR 45mm f/2.8D ED and PC-E Micro NIKKOR 85mm f/2.8D ED will be exhibited at the PMA 2008 International Convention and Trade Show in Las Vegas, USA from January 31 to February 2, 2008.

Notes:
The Nikon D3 can be used without any limitation. With other cameras, there are limitations in tilt/shift operation. The Nikon F90X series, F90 series, F70, F60D, F55, F50D, F-401 series, F-801 series, F-601, F-601M, F3AF, F-501, PRONEA S or MF cameras cannot be used.

Specifications, design, standard accessories, and release schedule may differ by country or area.

Also PC-E Micro NIKKOR 45mm f/2.8D ED and PC-E Micro NIKKOR 85mm f/2.8D ED announced. All of them are PC-E, signifying I suppose the new electromagnetic diaphragm compatible with D3/D300 cameras.

I don't see an announcement for the 45mm and 85mm.  Where did you find that, NikonR?

Look near the end of the main text (before notes) in the link attached by Dallas. I suppose this can be assumed to be a  so called development announcement.

It's strange that they didn't put out press releases about those two when they will be exhibited in a couple of days time. Huh

Obviously, they cannot quote a release date for the other lenses. As I said, I would treat this as a development announcement.

Of particular interest to me is the 'electromagnetic diaphragm' supported on the D3 and the D300, which people might want to discuss here: http://nikongear.com/smf/index.php?topic=8217.0

Sweeeeeet !  Shocked

I always wanted a tilt and shift lens below 35mm. This is the lens I dreamt about for years. I shoot alot in the city and to able handle perspective distorotion and make panoramas easy.

For me this is almost more important than fullframe digital. To think about it a bit. This lens will add tons to my photography.

We'll probably see the 45 & 85 PC-E Nikkors towards the summer of 2008. I wouldn't be surprised if the release is timed to coincide with the rumoured D3x über-megapixel camera.

I was so surprised. I didnt expect nikon to make this type off lens. I always thought about the 28PC which only offer shifting if I remmember correctly.

I actually given up on Nikon to make this kind off lens. This has always been a horn on my side after spending time with friends Canon with 24TS lens.

But Nikon always got me hooked on their ergonomics which fits me perfectly. I always toyed with the idea to switch to Canon to gain access to TS lenses. If I am lucky it will hit Canons TS version on the fingers in terms off quality. Which I think it will do.

So the last reason to me to change camps has gone away. Nikon really gave me last things I missed this couple off months. Digital fullframe and a wide TS lens. Sweet..

Just think about it, fullframe 24 mm is like 16mm DX angle off view. Which is sure wide enough for most off my shoots. I havnt felt such a craving for a product in years.

This is bad news. A D3X + three new PC-Nikkors ... is that 13000 euros all together or what? Yikes ;-)
